About the Inquiry
The Council of Australian Governments (COAG) Inquiry on Bushfire
Mitigation and Management was announced
by the Prime Minister on 10 October 2003.
The Inquiry's Terms of Reference focussed on issues related to
bushfire mitigation and management that are of national significance
and on opportunities for enhanced cooperation and the adoption
of national best practice. The Inquiry took account of
the work and findings of other bushfire inquiries.
The Inquiry reported to the Prime Minister
as the Chair of COAG on 2 April 2004 and copies of the report
were provided to each COAG
member. The report remained
under embargo while COAG considered the report and developed
an agreed response. The report and COAG's response were
released on 24 January 2005. The
Prime
Minister's media
release is available on the Prime Minister's website.
